Judicial Advisor - Supreme Court of Yukon (Closing date: August 14, 2026)

Reporting to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Yukon and administratively to the Court’s Legal Counsel, this position is responsible for participating in the administration of the Court by performing administrative duties at an executive level to assist Judges, managing the day-to-day operation of the Judges’ Chambers and supervising the Judges’ Assistant in the performance of duties for the Court.

We are looking for a professional individual who is self-motivated and who exercises diplomacy and confidentiality in their day-to-day work. You must be able to work effectively alone or in a team environment and be able to manage a fluctuating workload with frequent interruptions while continuing to meet deadlines.

Legal Counsel - Supreme and Territorial Courts of Yukon (Closing date: August 21, 2026)

The Legal Counsel (Yukon Courts) is responsible for performing solicitor duties for the Yukon Courts and the judiciary. As in-house legal counsel, this position works independently of lawyers in executive and legislative branches of government and public practice and is the authority in the law surrounding court administration and judicial independence. The incumbent is also engaged by the judiciary in procedural and substantive issues in diverse areas of the law and in matters related to the discharge of judicial duties under federal and territorial statutes. The workload is diverse, and files may be groundbreaking, complex, and concerned with conflicting legal principles.

This position reports to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Chief Judge of the Territorial Court, and administratively to the Director, Court Services. It works with one other Legal Counsel (Yukon Courts) to provide legal support to Yukon Courts and the judiciary. The position supervises the work of two Senior Judicial Assistants and articling and summer students, as required.

Court of Appeal

The Court of Appeal of Yukon hears appeals of decisions made by the Territorial Court and the Supreme Court of Yukon in civil and criminal matters.

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Yukon is the highest trial court in the territory, with broad jurisdiction to try a wide range of civil and serious criminal matters.

Territorial Court

The Territorial Court deals with most adult criminal prosecutions under the Criminal Code and other federal statutes. The Territorial Court also hears all young offender matters and prosecutions under territorial laws.

Small Claims Court

The Small Claims Court hears civil cases in which the amount of money or the value of personal property being claimed is $25,000 or less.

Federal Court

The Federal Court reviews decisions of all federal boards, commissions or other tribunals, and hears cases where federal legislation provides for the right of appeal or review in the Court. The Court hears both criminal and civil cases.
